According to the WHO millions of citizens spend approximately 90% of their time indoors: in their home, workplace, school, and public places, therefore, the importance of these places in terms of wellbeing, health and safety is of utmost concern. From a focused point of view, the question is: Why does the public think that hiring an interior designer is not a cost friendly decision? From the literature surveyed for the purpose of this research initiative, it is easy to see this statement is a false claim as the interior of a home can be done in a cost-friendly way.
The focus of this research is built on the work of several pioneers. For instance, systematically constraining design goals based on available funds (Michaels & Wood, 1989) refers to a design-to-cost method which gives an accurate estimate of the cost of any product and service beforehand. Parametric cost estimate models have been developed (Kim et al., 2004). These two findings focus on how to make interior design a budget friendly for the people. Therefore, to establish the link between cost of an interior designer and public point of view about them being expensive, a brief description and
foundation of interior designer’s role, list of their responsibilities, and tasks are explored as they have changed since the origination of the profession.
The history of interior design and the lack of academic exploration and literature regarding the profession, at present, may leave room for the misappropriation of design and designer value. Because of a few myths people think that designers are not easy to work or deal with as they might deplete the level of your bank balance.
Hiring one for the interior of their workspace means old furniture to be replaced with the new ones which will contribute to the higher cost factor. Doing their own interior is more cost friendly even though it results in disasters and they need to redecorate it again from the professional. These are a few of the reasons why people don’t think that highly about the interior designer.
To break all these claims, interior designers need to work on the cost factor and on the ideas how they can create something beautiful out of the old furniture and accessories that have been previously used. But along with the designers, people also need to understand the interior design term more properly as it is not a small term, it is a weird
concept and it does know how to be adjusted according to the people’s taste, preference and pockets.
The cost of designing an interior for any particular space or of the interior designer differs from one space to another or person to person as every space is differently made or every person’s preference or taste is different interior. So that’s why in some cases, it gets a little costly because some people want to add way too more premium accessories or furniture but that doesn’t mean that what other people choose for their space is of low quality. It is just that some people prefer to spend more on their space interior because of their style or economical status in the society.
People think that an interior designer cannot be budget free or cost friendly because they make an individual spend more on the interior accessories rather than making use of the old furniture, also they end up making an individual spend more on the new furniture. But this is a big fat lie.
Just because of a few rumors like these that getting interior designing done is expensive or the designer doesn’t listen to you or they will
l make you spend a lot of money on it, etc, people do not hire a proper designer for their abode and try to do the interior of their space on their own and when they don’t succeed in it, then they call the designer for the correction, which makes the process of the interior designer little hard and it also ends up increasing the cost.
To correct this misunderstanding between the designers and people. Designers can be more flexible and try to be less particular about the combinations or contrast or on their suggestion and know more of an individual’s preferences, whereas people should be more expressive about their ideal space designs, interior, style, taste or preferences and should be more specific with their needs. For example, if a person wants to use their old furniture in their new workspace, they should convey it to the designer rather than keeping it to themselves. Customers need to speak up in order to enhance smooth communication and their demands would be met absolutely as per their choice.
We cannot ride a cycle with a single pedal, to ride it with both,we need to work in a balanced way otherwise the person who will be riding it, can fall . Also, from It doesn’t matter about the origin of these rumors but what matters is about how this misconception can be changed. And it’s not the sole responsibility of the people but of the interior designers also. Interior Designers should take an initiative to understand their clients better. If a client is not being able to communicate, designers should make extra effort to know about their thought process and ideas. They can prepare a survey for the clients where they can write down their thoughts before going ahead with the project for a better relationship between them. If both the parties understand this simple mantra of communicating their thoughts then there will be lesser misconceptions and effective planning.
